Celt Salt FAQs

Who is Celt Salt?
  • Celt Salt, born from the vision of Brian, a California-based father of four, is more than just a brand – it's a testament to a parent's unwavering commitment to their children's well-being. In a world where deciphering what's truly healthy can feel like navigating a maze, Brian recognized the need for accessible, nutrient-rich options, especially within everyday staples like salt.

As a fundamental component of the human diet, salt shouldn't be overlooked in its raw, mineral-rich form. Yet, Brian noticed a gap in the market for such alternatives. Thus, Celt Salt emerged as the flagship offering under Brian's parent company, Nature's Pantry. It's a symbol of empowerment, providing families with a simple yet impactful choice that can influence their overall health and vitality.

Driven by a passion for healthier living and a desire to make a meaningful difference, Celt Salt is more than just a product – it's a catalyst for positive change in households across the nation.

What is Celt Salt

  • Since the founding of Celt Salts, we had a mission to bring unrefined salt to the USA after being discovered in France that was harvested using traditional techniques. The Celts settled the Guerande' region of France almost 2000 years ago and designed the salt harvesting method. "Celt" is the term coined for the salt after learning that the Celts invented the harvesting method. In France, they call it "sel gris" or grey salt. We call it Light Grey Celt Salt because of the trace amount of French green clay imparted into the crystals. There is a darker grey salt at the source, but it is more for bath or agriculture uses. The "Light Grey" is the best for consumption.

Where is Celt Salt from & how is it harvested?

  • Our Celt Salts are sourced directly from Brittany France for the best quality and smooth, savory flavor. This makes Celt Salt ideal for use as table salt, cooking, and baking needs.
  • Coarse Light Grey Salt is a product of meticulous hand harvesting, remaining entirely unrefined and untouched by any processing. It proudly carries non-GMO verification, Kosher certification, and is recognized as a lower sodium and paleo-friendly option. Dried under the gentle caress of the sun and the whispering winds, Celtic Light Grey Salt retains the ocean's moisture, encapsulating a diverse spectrum of essential trace elements.
  • Fine Ground Celt Salt is derived from the coarser Light Grey Celt Salt variety, undergoes a meticulous process of low-temperature drying and fine grinding. With a subtler flavor profile compared to our coarse salts, Fine Ground Celtic Sea Salt is the ideal all-purpose shaker salt, perfect for table use, culinary creations, and baking.
Does Celt Salt contain iodine?
    • There is no iodine added to our salts. Celt Salt does not supply iodine, a necessary nutrient.

    Does Celt Salt expire?

    • No.  Salt has long been hailed as "Nature's original preservative," playing a crucial role in preserving food throughout history. While modern refrigeration has reduced its necessity for food preservation, salt remains indispensable in the process of culturing vegetables and koshering meats even today.

    Why is Celt Salt wet?

    • Typically, you'll find our Coarse Light Grey Salt containing some moisture also known as brine, or "mother liquor", of the salt since we do not alter the salt once it is harvested.
Can I use Celt Salt in everyday recipes?
    • Certainly! Celt Salt is a versatile alternative to regular salt that can be used in all your favorite recipes. You can simply substitute it in a 1:1 ratio without any adjustments needed. It's essential to remember that you can always add more salt to a dish, but you can't take it away, so starting with a small amount and adjusting to taste is a wise approach to prevent over-salting.

For baking, we recommend using Fine Ground Celt Salt as it disperses and mixes more evenly, ensuring consistent flavor throughout your baked goods.

How do you store Celt Salt?

    • Keep it in a Dry Environment: Moisture can cause Celt Salt to clump together or degrade over time. Store it in a dry environment away from sources of humidity, such as near the stove or sink.
    • Use an Airtight Container: Transfer Celt Salt to an airtight container, preferably made of glass or ceramic, to prevent moisture from entering and keep it fresh for longer periods.
    • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Exposure to direct sunlight can affect the quality and flavor of Celt Salt. Store it in a dark or opaque container and keep it away from sunlight or intense heat.
    • Maintain Consistent Temperature: Fluctuations in temperature can also impact the quality of salt. Store Celt Salt in a cool, stable environment, such as a pantry or cupboard, rather than in areas prone to temperature fluctuations.
    Is Celt Salt non-GMO?
    • Indeed. The reality is that salt, being composed of minerals, doesn't contain any organisms to modify. Hence, it is inherently 100% GMO-free and organism-free. Celt Salt is produced and harvested in its natural form the way nature intended it to be.

Why is Celt Salt considered nutritious?

    • We hold the belief that unrefined sea salt offers unique benefits due to the presence of a full spectrum of trace elements. While we are not health professionals and cannot make specific recommendations or claims, it's worth noting that Celt Salt has garnered support from numerous experienced individuals and culinary experts.
